The Scholastic Art Awards is a
prestigious national event in which 7th to 12th grade students from
across the country submit art and writing samples to be considered
for local and national recognition and awards.
Locally,
the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have
become a proud part of the annual Festival of States.
Working directly with the Pinellas County Schools, the Festival of
States and its’ sponsors provide funding for local students to
submit an entry into the Scholastic Art and Writing competition
without a registration fee. In addition, all costs related to the
local awards ceremony and adjudication are covered so that students
and their families can attend at no cost.
Entries are due in early January and are judged by local art experts
hired by the Pinellas County Schools Art Supervisor. Typically,
500-600 entries are received each year.
From these entries 150-200 students are selected and their artwork
is included in an exhibition hung for several weeks in a local art
venue or performing arts school.
In February, these students and their families are invited to attend
a ceremony where they are presented with gold, silver or honorable
mention awards.
Students who win a gold award are entered into the national
competition and, if selected, are recognized at a national awards
ceremony held at Carnegie Hall in New York City each June.

Competition, contact art and writing teachers at all Pinellas County
