 Sungoddess
Program
The Sungoddess program began in 1955 as
the “Goddess of the Sun.”
The program was created by the Suncoasters and the Festival of
States as a scholarship program, to honor young women in Pinellas
County who are academically successful, support their community
through volunteerism, and embody the values and poise to represent
the Festival and the City of St. Petersburg as goodwill ambassadors
at various events throughout the year.
The Sungoddess receives a $2,500
scholarship from Bayfront Health Systems - who will match up to
$1,000 of any additional donations received - and a $1,500
scholarship from PJ Callaghan Company.
Up to 14 finalists are selected for the
Court and participate in the St. Petersburg Festival of States,
including the:
Annual Kids & Kubs softball game
The Kids & Kubs are a world-renowned St. Petersburg softball league
for players 75 and older. They were founded in 1930 and have played
every season through the Great Depression, World War II and into
modern times.
2008 Sungoddess Court Qualifications

The Candidate for the Sungoddess Court shall never have been married, and shall be the daughter of a family residing in, or with their principal place of business in Pinellas County, south of Ulmerton Road.

The Candidate for Sungoddess must have reached her nineteenth (19th) birthday on or before December 15, 2007. The Candidate shall not have reached her 22nd birthday on or before December 15, 2007 and have completed her Freshman year in college. She must be capable of carrying out the responsibilities of the title and office for which she is selected, so that during her tenure as Sungoddess she will reflect credit upon the Festival of States and the City of St. Petersburg.

It is the policy of this Sungoddess Selection Committee that candidates for the Sungoddess Court who are younger than 19 years of age, will be held on file in the Suncoaster office and be invited to the preliminary selection meetings the year that they meet the age requirements.

The selected Sungoddess may not, during her tenure, appear in any other public contests (unless first approved by the Suncoasters of St. Petersburg, Inc.), although she may appear as the Sungoddess at any other function that is approved by the Suncoasters.

The Sungoddess of St. Petersburg's Festival of States shall represent the Suncoasters and the wholesome image of Florida's West Coast.
